Delivery of river restoration on the Hammer Stream
Description:
800m of the Hammer Stream has been restored by creating a low flow meandering channel with pool and riffle sequences. Marginal areas have been created and planted with aquatic vegetation to establish a natural habitat. The project will benefit fish species by creating a mosiac of conditions which can support all life-stages. The project has installed fencing to prevent access by livestock and reduce poaching of the banks. It is hoped that this stretch of the river will see a return of watervole.
