To help focus efforts to protect and improve the Medway, the Medway Catchment Partnership has a vision of how the Medway could and should look and work. This vision has been developed with our wider partners and has been driven by many conversations with the people who live and work in the Medway catchment. It embraces the wide variety of characteristics found in each of the different rivers that enhance our lives and helps to place them at the heart of a community: clean water that supports life and industry - and a great place to relax and play

Our vision for the River Medway and its catchment:

  • To encourage and maintain healthy rivers, able to support characteristic environments, rich in habitat and biodiversity - with people at the heart of the catchment
  • To maintain a clean and plentiful water supply and encourage resilience to flood and drought through supporting the natural processes that deliver sustainability.

This vision helps to target key areas of concern that we can address through a range of projects and activities throughout the sub-catchments. Our action plan is structured with these values in mind and addresses broad aims that can encompass clean water for people and good access to recreation areas; better habitat; greater biodiversity; stronger resilience to drought and floods. Within these broad aims, more specific objectives, for instance fish passage, will determine a projects activities. You can find out more about these aims, objectives, projects and activities on our Action Plan page.
